It's a tradition in my family to get a ring for your 16th birthday. I was pregnant then and my fingers were fat, so I got mine for my 18th! It's 14 k white gold with peridot, and two miniscule diamonds to the sides. I had to share with someone. Does anyone else's family have a tradition like this?
What do you do if it doesn't fit? Resize it? Wear it on a chain?
Quoting Mommynwife26:
We get ring at 16 too but mine is a ring passed down through the women in our family where we wear it on our left hand till we are married. I got mine at 16 and wore it on my left hand till I got engaged, wore it on my right till I got pregnant with my youngest and then I couldn't so I put it away and it will stay till my oldest turns 16 and she will receive it. I will have to get another one for my youngest daughter or I will give her my wedding band.
We were pretty poor growing up. We didn't do anything special for birthdays besides cake and a few presents. I was in a foster home for my 16th birthday. :(
