Grrrrrrrrr this teacher is pissing me off!

I know I will probably catch hell, but at this point I don't care.  My 10 yr old son has autism and is in an autism classroom for a small part of his day, the rest of the day.  Recently he was moved back to our home district, where the class had been closed last summer.  They reopened it finally and the teacher running it is a 29 year vet of the district.  She thinks pushing my son to a full blown physical melt down is necessary.  She insists he do stuff that we all take for granted. Such as take his service dog outside, yes I would love him to, but he doesnt.  He has trouble paying attention, and focusing for long periods of time.  It comes with autism.

Last Monday, he was upset over thinking I was supposed to pick him up.  I had told him I would pick him up Tuesday, but he misunderstood and was upset when they forced him to the bus. He ended up breaking his glasses, his backpack and his lunchbox.  All could have been avoided by a simple phone call to me.

Yesterday, he knocked something over on accident and was frustrated with trying to clean it up.  The final bell rang and he went to go get on the bus, just like every day.  His routine is very important to him.  The teacher insisted he stay late and clean up the mess. Granted, he should be cleaning up.  But he missed his bus! And he again melted down because he missed his bus.  The teacher says he is a threat to her.  When I asked how he has threatened her , she said he hasnt......yet.  She has no concept of Autism or how to deal with it.  I know it's frustrating, irritating and annoying.  It is also rewarding, amazing and wonderful.

Shouldn't be with kids who need extra help if she can't deal with it.

wow... have you talked with her or the principal or anything yet? i agree she should be with kids who need extra help if seh can't deal with it and she needs to educate herself with autism as well. I dont know much about it myself but would if i had to deal with a kid everyday who had one. meltdowns are no fun. my 2 year old is good at them.

She refused? I would set up a meeting with the principal AND call and complain to the district office.

Wow I'm so sorry that you have to deal with that! If that teacher would've refused to meet with me I would've marched down there and told her you will speak to me now! And gotten the principal involved as well! WTF is that ladies problem!? I hope the principal can help and get your son in a classroom where he can get the PROPER help he needs! And how the HELL does she figure having MELTDOWNS will help him?! She sounds like a whack job.

I emailed the principal, he's a good guy who really wants to see kids succeed.  So I hope he will help us.  I want to slap this teacher!

You need to get him away from that bitch. She is ignorant and has no business working with children especially children with developmental disabilities.
