So my SO snores and lately it seems like it has gotten worse. I don't know if it actually has gotten worse, or if it's just that I have become less tolerant of it. Anyways it has started to become an issue and so I finally convinced him to go and see a doctor about it. Well today we found out that he does have a deviated septum, and next week he goes for a sleep study as well.
This got me thinking though, my youngest boy sometimes snores, but what has really concerned me is that he sometimes gets bloody noses as well (so does daddy). So I'm wondering if he might also have a deviated septum which may be the cause of his nose bleeds. We have spoken to his doctor in the past about his nose bleeds and she never seemed concerned about them, but now finding out about SO's deviated septum it sort of re-raised concerns.
We fully intend to check into this, but what I'm wondering is if anyone here has experienced their child having a deviated septum and how it was dealt with.
Doctors will not do surgery to correct diviated septums in children until they are around 17 years old. My DD has one and she is almost old enough to have it done.
The doctor will ask if he has apnea. Moments of sleep where he seems too stop breathing. It is very important in treatment / diagnosis so if you don't know, try to check it out before the appointment.
Ok thanks! I kinda figure they won't do any surgery or anything right now. I read somewhere online that sometimes it corrects itself? I'm not sure, but I definitely should check into the breathing thing.

Bloddy noses are usually from dry air. Try running a cool mist humidifier.

He should get a sleep study to make sure he doesn't have apnea. Untreated sleep apnea can cause many serious health problems and shorten ones life. :(
Yeah that is the main concern. My mother was recently told she had sleep apnea and so when SO's snoring became a big issue I started to think perhaps that might be a concern for him, and maybe even my DS.
