A newborn baby boy from Airdrie has died from his injuries after he was attacked by a family pet.

Police say the dog attacked the little boy inside the family's home in the Kingsland Area at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The attack caused serious trauma to the child and he was rushed to the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary but succumbed to his injuries later that night.

The dog, a husky, has been quarantined and a decision is being made by the family and Airdrie bylaw officers on what to do with the animal.

"The dog is a husky breed. There is no history whatsoever of any issue with this particular dog," said Airdrie RCMP Inspector Tony Hamori.

People in the dogsled community identify the family as Rob and Rhonda Fradette.

The Fradettes have four huskies and a dogsled gear business.

Neighbours who love watching the sled dogs go by are sympathetic and horrified for the poor family.

I'm not exactly keen on cats or dogs around babies. That's horrible.

Some dogs do it, some don't. I trust all my pets with my kids. My dogs have had the shit scared out of them for just growling, they are now the kids best friends. They know better. Our old dog (passed away 2 years ago) had snapped at my oldest (8) when she was a baby, let me say she never did it again and became my 2nd daughter's partner in crime (she would be her step stool to get things off the counter).

Condolences to the family though, it does suck when something terrible like that happens.

Oddly enough, this also happened today, in Pittsburgh, to a 2 day old baby, just home from the hospital. Also a Husky.

This is what happens when leave a dog & child alone together. Luckly it was only a small bite & scratch. She might have a scar though :( The dog was my work dog & had never met such a good dog (lab) before. Now I see him in a different light. I made a post about this after it happened. Someone told me and I agree..Animals will always revert to wild animals when scared or feel threatened.

My cats have never harmed my kids.  We had a jack russell terrier that for no damn reason bit my son in the face.  We had her put down. We have two dogs now. One is a service dog and very submissive.  The other is a dachsund. If either of them bit they would be put down.
