Would you allow a felon to babysit? Edit in blue Second edit in green

For arguments sake...say it is a non-violent felony and didn't involve children in any way.

Would your answer change if it was family?

What if they had great child care experience?

EDIT: I'm asking because my cousin might be moving closer to me. I know that my family will want me to let her babysit from time to time. My cousin took a plea deal that included her being charged with a felony. She was involved in a theft incident at work. I don't know the details but I do know it was non-violent.

She has years of experience as a nanny and a lot of experience with watching family members (we have a lot of younger cousins).

I'm really torn on what to do. I want to have a decision made before the time presents itself when I'm put on the spot.

Also, I'm ignoring most of the drama here. I'm reading the posts but my computer is insanely slow and if I responded to them all I'd have no time to do anything else. :)

SECOND EDIT: Okay...so here's what I've decided.

I really don't know her very well. Yes she's my cousin. However I haven't spent time with her outside of vacations since she was a kid. She's 20 now. So, I'm going to make it clear to everyone in the family that I won't be allowing her to babysit until I get to know her better as an adult. Thats fair. Honestly, the fact that she has a felony charge WILL come into play. For a few reasons. 1. Thats the world we live in. As some people pointed out in their comments it could cause additional issues if something were to happen while she was in her care. 2. My husband and I are on the verge of separating and him using me allowing a felon to babysit against me is terrifying. I doubt he'd do that...but as anyone who has been through a divorce knows you don't take any chances!

Also to answer the questions of would you trust her in your home and the comments of don't trust her in your home...only ONE person ever babysits in my home. My sister. Not because I trust people more easily with my child than my home...but because it is more convienent for everyone to just watch my daughter at my mom's house. Only family watches her and the rest of my local family lives in the same house 10 minutes away from me. Most of them are allergic to my cat too.

Thank you so much everyone for your input and advice. If you want to keep giving it I will keep reading. Like I said in my first edit...my computer sucks so I can't respond to most posts, it takes forever to load each page but I am reading.

My fiance is an ex felon, he has 3 children and watched my son quite a few times I trust him, but other then him I probably wouldn't let a felon watch my son

Totally depends on the felony and when it happened. That the person is family means nothing to me. I have nonfelon family members that I dont trust to babysit.

It depends on how well I knew them and what the felony was for!

Depends on the charge mainly. Any form of domestic charges or violent charges I would not do it. I am going through a custody battle and I know the courts would not appreciate me letting someone with a violent history on there record be alone at all with my kid

Hell no.  My mother and father are both felons and there is no way either one of them would be allowed to babysit my kids.  Both of their offenses were violent though.

My best friend is a felon and is great with kids. He just got 5 years of probation for making a works bomb! But he is soo sweet. He is only 24 And has white hair because prison stressed him out.

It would depend on what they were convicted of.
