I think the problem is, respecting others. Knowing religion is a hit topic, with many having strong views, we should all try to play nicely. Many, regardless of religious denomination do not take the Lord's name in vain. It is disrespectful. In fact it is the seventh Commandment.
Kind of like, I would not burn the Avesta, Vedas, Qur'an or Upinishads. I don't believe in the religions that follow these books , but I understand that many good people do and I respect that.

I see what you're saying, but I don't really agree. I mean yeah respect is awesome, but should we all have to censor every damn word that comes out of our mouths because it might offend someone? No.
God Damn is not offensive. Some people might think it is, but it's really not. In the best of cases, it's an actual request to a deity. In most cases, it's an expletive which has no theological meaning whatsoever. If someone chooses to be offended by it, that's on them. But there are really much more important things to be offended about.
*ETA* I wouldn't burn any of those books either. Nor would I burn the bible. Saying a phrase that a minority of people in the world find upsetting is very VERY different from burning a religious text. (Then again I would never burn any book at all, but that's a different subject altogether.)
I think all of us, who are older than 25 cannot understand the hype :D
