I read a post in another group that a mother was going to spend about $50 of her food stamps (she got almost $800) to buy non perishables to donate to an area close to her that was devastated by the tornadoes on Friday. While, techinically, I guess, this is considered fraud, I, personally, don't see anything wrong with it.

What do you think?

Technically using your food stamps for anyone other then your family is fraud.

I guess because you are only suppose to spend that money to feed your family.

Most times with food stamps if you tell them you dont need all of it-say in this scenario you only need $750- they tell you that this is the alloted amount you qualify for and they cant decrease it. So if i had my freezers and pantry fully stocked then i would take the food that would otherwise be wasted and donate it to others that need it more than i.

I don't agree with it. Fs are to feed your family only, not to help others. I understand wanting to help, but if you're getting that much in fs you're obviously in no position to help someone else

An individual who gets foodstamps doesn't decide how much they get.....if they qualify for an amount they are able to budget, why shouldn't the extra go to other people in need (who may not qualify for foodstamps, but are having a hard time)?

I don't think it's great, but it doesn't bother me. And I don't think donating food constitutes fraud she's not selling her food stamps.
