Please help! The Doctors won't take me seriously...*Update* 3/8/12

It all started last summer- my DS (now 5) was up all night complaining of EXTREME stomach pains which ended in him vomiting 3 times. He was fine after that. Almost a month to the date, he does the same thing again, then again a few weeks later...

Since then- it has started coming more frequently, we are dealing w/ this anywhere from a few times a week to not having anything for a month. We have made visits to the Dr, visits to the ER and gotten nothing but guesses. We have kept a food diary, cut out dairy, sugar etc...nothing is setting it off. Nothing is adding up. The last time we were in the ER (from extreme stomach pains that I thought was maybe appendicitis) they chalked it up to constipation (he is VERY regular and only showed "some" bowel movement in his intestines on his last x-rays).

Please, tell me I am not crazy! Please give me some ideas to ask about, tests to ask for or some encouragement that he will okay...I hate to see him pain. Today he is having another "episode" and I feel helpless.

Thank you!

*Update*

We had another episode starting yesterday afternoon and lasting until about 5am this morning. Loss of appetite, sudden onset of severe stomach cramps that ended in vomiting (which was tinged pink, even though he hadn't had any type of pink anything to eat or drink). Once he was done vomiting, the stomach cramps slowly went away and he was fine and able to sleep. (atleast one of us did, DH and I were up and down all night again checking on him)

I did finally get an appt w/ his pedi. We have an appt tomorrow at 10am. I am going to take the advice from you all and request a referral to a GI doc as well as allergy testing and abdominal ultrasound for now. Hopefully we can get some answers and not have to have any invasive testing...but if we have to, we will do them. I was in tears last night bc I felt so helpless!

Anyway- Not sure if anyone really wanted an update- I just thought I would share.

Thank you again!

I would get him into a GI doc. My sister had to have her gall bladder removed at 8 BC of something similar. Its rare at that age but it does happen.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was little.

After my mom took me to a specialist, they found out that I was having what they called "stomach spasms" for whatever reason my stomach would just spasm over and over and cause episodes of severe pain, vomiting & constipation. I took a medication for it until I was 16, and I.grew out.of it

Does anyone have any experience w/ a GI doctor? What types of tests are they going to want to do?

I had terrible stomach issues as a child and looking back, I now realize it was stress. Try talking to him to see if he might be having any troubles at school.

I hope that the doctors figure out what is wrong with your son quickly. Take him to a GI.
