I bought ds (3) a pink ladybug stuffy because he wanted it. I set him down and let him pick. He wanted the bug. I thought it was cute so I took a pic and sent to my mom and him.

Mom said nothing but he and I go into it. Convo goes:

Him: guess ds is getting a new stuffy
Me: yea he wanted a pink ladybug
Him: seriously pink? I'm laughing now.
Me: he wanted it. He likes pink, and other colors.
Him : I'm still laughing
Me: so would you laugh at him if he wanted to play with Barbie or dressed?
Him: yes I laugh at nephew when he does it.
Me: that's mean
Him: well you won't be buying him any dresses so it doesn't matter
Me: I will if he asked for it

Grrrre wtf is wrong with men! My df thought t was cute! Ds doesn't know it's "girly" and I dont gender stereotype his toys. This same man (ex) refused to allow ds a baby doll toy. I'm pulling my hair out and hoping he doesn't try and "defeminize" my son.

You would buy your son a dress? To each their own...

If he asked for it. Doubtful he will but I won't stop him from expressing himself

I think it's cute! Just because it's a pink ladybug doesn't mean it's 'just for girls!' People that would not buy their ds something pink...do you also refuse to buy your dd things that are blue?

I don't see anything wrong with it. It's pink so what.

You kinda egged that convo on...
If it were me, I would've responded "ok" the first time he said he was laughing and it would've been over...
You made yourself mad on this one.

It's a COLOR, would it be different if a girl wanted a green ladybug pillow?

I am with you and as much as it may make my DH uncomfortable he would NEVER laugh at a kid (ours or otherwise) for picking outside the stereotype.
Good for you momma!

I jut worry because ds has to spend a month with his dad this summer and I know they will try and keep him from expressing himself.
