The owners of two winning tickets worth about $218M each remain anonymous. (Photo: ABC7)

There were three winning tickets each worth about $218 million-one from Maryland and one from Kansas. The winners in those states can remain anonymous.

But the New York Post is reporting it found the Maryland lotto winner-a McDonald's worker who is a single mother of seven. The paper also says that her co-workers are claiming the ticket was part of a lottery-pool-a claim the woman denies.

For some Americans who are not about to become overnight millionaires, the talk is about how winning is not quite all it's cracked up to be-scared that people will come out of the woodwork, wanting money from you.

One hundred million Americans spent one and a half billion dollars playing mega millions.

I used to go in on the office pools and we would write down our name and make copies of the ticket.

Legal precedent has been set for that. If you go in on a lottery pool, you cannot buy your own ticket and claim the winnings, just an fyi...

My SO runs a lotto pool at work.  This is exactly why he scans and emails copies of the group tickets to everyone who pitched in.  That way, if we win on our OWN ticket, they can't say it was a group ticket.

if they made copies of the tickets they used for a pool, they will know if her ticket was the winning or if theirs was.

When I did an office pool we locked the tickets in the safe and made copies of all of them to give to everyone who put money in.

Oh wow!! So A member of an office pool shouldn't buy their 'own' ticket separately...everyone will have a piece of it?

1 mom liked this

That's bullshit.... flat out. If I go into a lottery pool at work, and I purchase tickets with my money aside.... they will not be claiming my money...

Most lottery pools I've been in give copies of the tickets to everyone. Even if I was in a pool, I still bought a few for myself.
