Please help settle this discussion... I changed my dd's bedtime to 8:30 and SO wanted me to find out what time the average 7 year old goes to bed... I think 8:30 is totally reasonable!

*Edit* Her bedtime was 8:00pm, but I don[t get home from work until about 5:30, and by the time dinner, homework, and bath happen it's already quarter of eight. I like for her to be able to play/read/draw for at least a half hour everyday, so I decided to change bedtime. She gets up at 7am. Assuming it takes a few minutes to doze off, that still gives her a solid (at least) 10 hours sleep.

That depends on when she needs to get up in the morning. She needs a good solid 10 hours of sleep. She has a lot of growing to do. Still, I voted for 8 pm.

Mine go to bed at 8 until 3rd grade. Then it gets bumped up to 8:30. In 5th grade we aim for between 8:30/9.
So far we plan in keeping for no later than 9 until middle school ends.

My dd at that age had a 7:30 bedtime, and still does at 10 yrs old.

I said 8pm only because I assume that he needs to get up early for school. Anything later would be cutting down on the amount of hours he requires at that age.

My almost 7 yo starts the routine at 720 on school nights. She bathes, brushes her teeth, and we read until 8 then shes in bed

Those were the rules in my house when I was a kid. I may not have been happy about but I wasn't falling asleep in school or cranny when I woke up.

8:30 I think is a really good time, not too late, not too early.  That is roughly my 6 yo's bedtime depending on when she fall asleep.
