Really rough time! :(

 It's been a really sad time for my family! On April 20th my husband's brother, who is like my brother, lost his wife. She had a heart attack at only 25 years old. She had been having health problems most of her life. She was diagnosed with diabetes at 11. 5 years ago she almost died from a diabetic coma. She had to be shocked back 11 times, which caused her heart damage. Ever since my niece was born premature 9 months ago, she had been going downhill. Being pregnant took a toll on her body. Now my brother in law has to raise my niece alone. :( What makes matters even worse is I think my sweet and adorable niece, Trenity is going to be special needs. Last weekend was the first time I had seen her since she was 6 weeks old. They live in northern OK and we live in LA. She definately has something going on. She is 9 months old, adjusted age 7 months. I had to hold her like a newborn baby. She has very little head control, her eyes cross, she can't sit up or she doesn't try to crawl. She will hold her head up when laying on her stomach, but doesn't move her arms or legs, and tries really hard to roll over, but can't. It just seems like to me she has cerebral palsy or something of that nature. I hope and pray it's nothing to serious, but I know for sure she will be delayed. When she was in the womb, her mother had a seizure and went into diabetic shock and I think Trenity lost oxygen to her brain. We will find out some answers in about 2 weeks. Before her mother died, she had made her an appointment to get evaluated with a specialist. My brother in law is going to keep the appointment. I didn't think he realized the full scale of things until he saw my 6 month old and could compare them. I will love that little girl no matter what the outcome, but it's just been a really rough time for us all. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Hopefully she can get some Early Intervention Services-they helped my preemie son so much, you would never guess the extent of his special needs now! He has overcome so much:) Good luck!

Thanks so much. My heart breaks for all of them. They may be the family I married in to, but I love them with all my heart. My husband is hurting because his baby brother is hurting. I just wish we didn't live 12 hours away from them, so I could help more. I stay at home with my own children. He has a demanding job and i know it will be hard for him to make all her dr.'s appointments and therapies. My sweet niece Trenity Ann has my heart. At least he has some great friends and his wife's family to help. He also has 2 children from his first marriage that he has joint custody of. He has to get them to school and daycare 3 days a week when he has them. I know he is overwhelmed, but he's a strong man!

I truly wish him the best. I have a special needs preemie and even with his dad being there and my family being awesomely close and supportive, it can be a very lonely place to be.

An update on Trenity. She is now 19 months old. She has been diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy. She has braces for her legs and has recently gotten glasses to correct her eyes. She is also on medication 3 times a day to relaxe her muscles. She can now roll, sit up independently, grab things, say several words, hold her sippy cup, and army crawl. She's making great progress since she is getting the necessary therapy she needs. My brother in law shares joint custody with Trenity's grandmother, his deseased wife's mother. She lives with her the majority of the time during the week and he has her on most weekends. He has a demanding job and could not make all of the necessary Dr's appointments and therapies. His mother in law does all of that during the week. It's the best for everyone involved and I respect that. He has 2 other children as well and his ex wife and is a loving father. She's a precious angel of god and steals hearts. A blessing to our family.
