How much did you/your parents spend on prom??/

So I was just reading an article last night, and we were discussing in class about how much you spent on going to prom. According to the article the average person spends between $500 to $700 and about a third of parents/ people spend upwards of $2000. What are some opinions on this? Personally, when I went to my Senior Prom I spent $100 on my dress and shoes,my hair and makeup/nails were done free by my BF mom and my date bought the tickets and we went to dinner at a very nice restaurant. Grand total was probably about $400 for everything.

I went to three proms and between them only $200 was spent. I didn't go to my prom, I was getting married the following month.

shoes/gloves/tiara-free-donated by my aunt

we had dinner during prom

$20 for Gas and $15 for breakfast (2am diner)

so $95.

I did my own hair and nails/makeup.

My senior year my parents spent $0!
They moved to Hawaii with my brother and left me behind. luckily I had a job.
My amazing Aunt paid $250 for my dream dress, and I probably spent $200 on nails/hair/make up/shoes, etc.

I didn't go to prom. I was in the hospital recovering from a c-section.

My dd just went saturday. For the dress, nails, hair, shoes, tanning, I spent 90$.
