A friend posted this on facebook and I commented that I did not see the big deal and that Muslims and Christians worship the same god so what's the issue?

What are your thoughts?

(and maybe this has been posted but it's my first time seeing it)

I am atheist and I personally don't want any type of religious anything on my money. However, god or not, it still spends the same so no plans to boycott anytime soon! lol

I might shake my head a bit if I got that bill but it still spends the same at the end of the day.

Here's an interesting chart comparing the Abrahamic religions in case anyone is interested.  (Sorry if it's already been posted but I haven't read through everything.)

Catholicism is a Christian denomination. All Catholics are Christians but not all Christians are Catholics. You are confusing Christian with Protestant.

Been busy for several hours...just catching up a bit now - then I'm out all night busy with real-life.....

Just wanted to reply...

I know that Christians and Catholics are different...that's why I listed them separately in my reply.
Also - you have NO CLUE what my history/background is....I can assure you I am making ZERO assumptions about Christianity due to things I have "read" - far from it.

As far as your friend - he cannot possibly be "almost Orthodox" is he eats pork and doesn't wear a kippah.  There are plenty of Rabbis that are not from Orthodoxy.  I'm glad you have a great relationship with him.

Quoting kitty8199:

Most Christians don't agree with Catholic beliefs. Don't lump us all together. Don't assume what Christians believe based on a few things you've heard. There are different Christian beliefs just as there are different Jewish beliefs. I've had this discussion with a lifelong friend who is Jewish. He is almost Orthodox, (aside from a few things), his family eats pork, doesn't wear yarmulkes. He won't eat meat and cheese in the same meal. He is studying to me a rabbi, has spent years in Israel he agrees it is the same God. The only difference is the Messiah. We've gone into in depth conversations about this. I went to his bar mitzvah is that says how long I've known the guy.

Quoting TableforSeven:

Actually, my dear, it seems that YOU are the one that has been missing Sunday school class.

There are no equals to G-d (as Jews and Muslims believe).  The Cristian belief that the only way to be 'saved' by accepting Jesus in your heart - goes against that very core belief.  The Catholic belief that the Pope is infallable and that you should pray to Saints, etc goes against that very core beliefl.

We pray to NOONE but G-d.

Quoting sha_lyn68:

Thanks for proving the point that you are uneducated when it comes to religions including the very basics of the 3 main monotheistic religions in the world, which would be Christianity, Islam and Judaism (which all worship the Abrahamic God).

Quoting TableforSeven:

Actually - I am QUITE educated as far as the basic differences between Christianity and Judaism (actully - way more than the 'basics' - but this is a pretty 'basic' concept....so that's all that matters right now).

Judaism is a faith where the very CORE, most BASIC belief is that G-d is ONE.

Christianity claims that G-d is "three in one" - that is called a TRINITY.  It goes against the very core of Judaism and who the Jewish G-d is.  G-d made it pretty darn clear in the Torah that he is ONE....no more, no less.

Quoting sha_lyn68:

Um-No..... Please educate yourself.

Quoting TableforSeven:

Um - NO.

I'm Jewish - I worship ONE G-d.  Christians worship a TRINITY of G-d(s)....NOT the same - sorry.

Quoting ashleyrenee24:

Muslims, Jews, and Christians worship the same god. They are all Abrahamic religions.

Quoting AlwaysKISA:

Muslims and Christians worship the same god?

Ok....

Wow, That's interesting, I never knew that.

Quoting Rose87:

Because he's the final prophet.
That's all.

We still believe on judgement day that Jesus is the messiah and will return.

Quoting LectioDivina:

Why is he so revered in the Muslim faith over all other Prophets?

Quoting Rose87:

No. Mohammed is just a mere man, a prophet. Nothing more. Nothing less. Same as Jesus, Moses, etc etc

Quoting LectioDivina:

Many christians do think that. Being a prophet does not mean you are not the child of God. Being a mere man does not mean we do not have the ability to heal ourselves and others. Being human does not mean you are not divinely inspired. Many christians believe he was the tool used to build God's house on earth.

Jesus has his own mentions in the Koran where he is described as a prophet. Although in the Muslim faith, Mohammad was a bit more than just a normal prophet wasn't he....

islam tecnically is just a younger christianity. they both worship one god, but pitty Islam can't learn from christianities mistakes and re-makes them all the same way.
