Oh ok.... I'll just let my son sweat all day. No problem!

We live in a apartment and our AC isn't working and it is going to be 91 degrees today and my son and I are home all day without a car. We live on the top floor and it gets HOT. I called the office last night and they said they'd be out this morning but no show... I called them again and they said since the fixed it a few weeks ago they probably won't come out today. Wtf? My son woke up sweating! This is BS. :(

I can understand if you're renting they should fix your a/c...but it does remind me of the fact when I was a kid we had no a/c.  In Florida.  My parents didn't put it in until after we moved out, and then it was only downstairs for a while.  In fact we didn't have central heat either when we first moved into the house.  Again, my parents only had it put in downstairs.  It does get a bit cold in North Florida and we survived with heater units in our bedrooms.  For the summer I had a box fan sitting right in my window blowing right on me.  To this day I have a hard time sleeping without a ceiling fan regardless of a/c or not.

Call a news channel- maybe a call from them will get your management company to do something for you. :)

I'd call a repair man yourself & send the bill to your landlord.

Um, I'm married to a window tinter. He would NEVER allow tin foil on the windows...lol. I have lots of shade, just no breeze to push air around. The fans are circulating hot stuffy air.

Quoting barrelracer1699:

Cover the windows to the west. maybe tape some tinfoil. I never thought of that but my best friend had that last summer and the sun should just bounce off of the tin foil!

Quoting Whitney517:

Wow that is awful :( It is crazy how long it takes for people to do their job. We can be sweat buddies today lol luckly we have two stand up fans and that helps some. From 3 on the sun just comes blasting through the windows and that's what makes it even hotter. Woe is us! :/

I've been waiting 12 weeks for ac. They finally brought by 2 window units. Hooked the 110 up in my room but needed to come back to run a 220 outlet for the living room. Said they'd be back the next day. A week & a half later, I'm still waiting. It's gonna be 93 today. The fans just aren't cutting it anymore. I feel for ya. Hope they get your air fixed soon.

Ds11 actually did a science fair project about whether or not a windshield aluminum shade keeps a car cooler inside it.  Since the  answer was no I'm going to think foil on the windows won't help your house any better than just closing the curtains would.

Invest in blackout curtains and by all means get some fans

You're right. The foil doesn't help (aside from blocking direct sunlight from coming in). Actually, it can hold the heat & heat unevenly, which could cause the glass to break.

Yeah it kind of confirmed what i already knew.  We put a themostat in the car and put it in the sun at different times of the day, as well as the shade of a tree.  I have used the window shades but the car always felt just as hot to me as if I didn't use the shade.  All it will do is keep the sun from heating up your steering wheel and dashboard.  Parking in the shade does drop the temp by a few degrees though.

Yeah, I think Mythbusters did something like that, too. It was either Mythbusters or one of the many training videos I watched while running one of the tint shops...lol.

Mythbusters? LOL I'll have to tell ds's father....he thought the project was lame.  My opinion was if that was what ds wanted to do then let him do it.  I actually wanted to know the results and told my ds so.
