When did they get evaluated and diagnosed with it? My ds (4) is in pre-k through the local school and we just had our IEP meeting. He has speech delays and very bad social anxiety. I asked the teacher if she thinks anything else could be going on because i think there's more to it than just that. She said at the beginning of next year she can have him evaluated for Autism because that is what she's thinking. So my main question is if anyones child got diagnosed later on where did you take them to get evalutated? I dont want to wait 3 more months when i can be doing something now if i need to be. TIA
Umm the teacher is SEVERELY! Misinformed. Kids are tested for autism ANY TIME. As early as a month old if they dont make eye contact! My son was tested at 2 because he wasn't talking yet. Turns out he was just a really late talker (and now I cant shut him up), but the point is, I was concerned and we had him tested. First they tested his hearing and the hearing doctor said it was perfect and he was prolly autistic, so that was the next test. Turns out they were wrong, but still...point is, ANY AGE. The sooner you get a yes or no the better.

it can be diagnosed at any time. my duaghter was 5. my cousin was 2 because he was non verbal at the time (he isnt anymore thankfully)
a lot of the time, it is severity that plays a part in when it is noticed and tested. more severe autism will be seen much sooner than higher functioning, which is usually found in daycare or in school, closer to the age of 3-6
My son was tested/diagnosed just after he turned 2 but we had noticed delays/symptoms, etc around 15 months.
OP: This is a really great group to get support in.
