When you buy a house, do you give your real estate agent a thank you gift?

At closing, the you give your agent a thank you gift, card, or some sort of token of appreciation?

I know my guy is getting paid, but he has really worked his butt off for us for the last 6 months, through 4 offers... All while battling cancer. Should I give him something at closing, or is that not appropriate?

He is actually giving US some of his commission. The seller and us could not come to an agreement about how much the seller would contribute to the sale due to necessary repairs, so my agent is making up the difference so the sale would go through. It's only $250, but still...

Quoting scperdomo:

They get commission, lol. That's their gift.

In your situation I would, however it's more common for them to give you a gift.
