My dog isn't eating**UPDATE***UPDATE #2***

My boxer- Zeppelin, hasn't eaten anything since Sunday. I plan to take him in but would like to get advice.
He's 9 months old. We've had since he was 5 weeks old ( yes, I know early...we were lied to)
He has always had a great appetite and eats just fine. We feed him beneful and beneful treats too. He has never had issues. But, suddenly on Sunday he refused his food and hasn't eaten since. I offered him a tiny piece of a hot dog just to see if he was refusing any food period. He ate it just fine. I worry about suddenly changing his diet. I know beneful isn't the best food for him but it's what he has always eaten and I know it can upset his tummy to just switch.

What can I do? If changing his food is what needs to be done, What brands can I choose that aren't too far off from his current brand in price? We spend about $18 on a large bag every two weeks. He's a 70 pound hunk of muscle.

UPDATE:

TMI: he had a BM. it looks normal. Not loose or discolored. (thank you god for stopping the rain for a second)
I made some plain rice and he ate that fast. I'm making the chicken rice combo right now. Thank you for those who offered that advice. He is playful still and still very loving and has a cold wet nose. I'm wondering if this a stubborn picky " I don't like that food anymore". I'm taking him in tomorrow regardless of how well he does today. Its funny, the moment I make an appointment he suddenly seems fine. But he's going either way.

And thank you to all of the helpful ladies who offered nice advice and didn't get judgmental or make dumb assumptions like a couple. You all are awesome.

UPDATE #2

I made Zeppelin the chicken rice combo yesterday. He ate really well and did not throw up. He saw his vet this morning. They did an X-ray and she said he looks just fine. She gave him a prescription soft food for sensitive tummies. (12 cans) and I have to crush a 1.5 pills with the food. $289 later, geesh! She suggested some brands for him to try. So, once he finishes this food she sent home with us I will start weaning him off beneful and start introducing the new brand. What a stubborn butt!!
I love my baby Z, I'm so happy he is fine and there are no internal problems. Thanks for the support ladies.

Is he getting sick? Not drinking water? Appears to be in pain? More sleepy?

I know the vet can answer better, but I can not get him to a vet right now. I know there are plenty of dog owners and lovers is this big group. Someone knows something.

has he always had that same flavor? Have you tried to drizzle some grease from bacon or something on it? What about adding some scrambled eggs?

Yes, definitely sleepy. He gets really weird when it rains a lot. He refuses to go outside when the weather is bad so he seems a little frustrated. Forecast calls for rain until Friday. He is drinking some water but he's not consuming anything like he usually does.

Does he otherwise act normal?

He might just not like his food anymore! Happened to me with my dogs, I switched the food and everything went back to normal! Oh and my dogs hate beneful! Mine been eating and loving purina come and get it "mixed grill" about $25 for a 50lb bag
