I picked my daughter up from pre-k this morning  and her teacher pulled me to the side and told me that she didnt want to offend me, but that she cant handle strong smells and the stuff I put in my daughters hair (she is bi racial) is really bothering her and she has to keep her at arms length when she is around. WTF!  I put oils and lotions in her hair because it needs it. School is out in 3 weeks, could she not just suck it up until then.  I asked my daughter when we got home if the teacher said anything about her hair and she said the teacher said her hair is nasty.

EDIT: I called the principal and she said that she felt that was insensitive for her to say that and she has bi racial kids in her family so she understands and that she will be talking to the teacher.                                              angry

I'd complain to the principal. A teacher shouldn't be telling kids that their hair is nasty.

The nasty comment was uncalled-for but maybe there is something else with a milder scent you could use. Certain strong smells hurt my entire nasal passage so I understand what she meant.

wow!! How rude!! I would report her to the principal or the superintendent!  She is ignorant too!  She needs to keep her mouth shut!  Taxpayers are paying her salary!  I would say something, don't let it go!

I would get confirmation of the childs statement. IF the teacher did actually say to the child your hair is nasty, you have a valid complaint. If she merely said that I can't be around whatever is in your hair, that isn't the same thing. I would look for unscented loations and hairproducts.  Some people have serious reactions to chemicals-it's not a preferance-it can make some people ill.
