Time breastfeeding cover sparks controversy! *EDIT with question*
So, I don't want to make another post, but as I have been reading I began to wonder why there is an actual term, Extended Breast Feeding.... When did this term come in to use? Just curious.
This week's Time magazine cover features Jamie Lynne Grumet, a 26-year-old woman breastfeeding her three-year-old son. Grumet was one of four mothers photographed by Time for a cover story on "attachment parenting," an approach--outlined by 1992's "The Baby Book" by Dr. Bill Sears--that recommends extended breast-feeding, co-sleeping and "baby wearing."
The provocative cover, published online Thursday, was met with the predictable Twitter jaw-drop.
"Love the Time cover," AllThingsD.com's Peter Kafka wrote. "In the cringiest way possible."
"Anybody else slightly slack-jawed over this week's Time cover?" The Atlantic Wire's Adam Clark Estes rhetorically asked.
"Breastfeeding your 3-year-old is one thing," the Daily News' Bill Hammond wrote. "But putting a picture of him doing it on the cover of Time?"
"Heads up, parents!" John Cannon warned. "If you're planning to take your kids grocery shopping, you will have to explain this Time mag cover."

@Logan...LOL
I think the real issue is that its not for mom's enjoyment but the comfort of the MoM instead. THe Mom has a hard time letting go. Moms should really allow their children to be more independent. This is the time when they learn how to do things on thier own with out mom. Once they begin kindergarten, moms...moms, theyll make you separate...
Sami,
Just my opinion...
Quoting Jennysue12:
Okay first and foremost TIME magazine went too far with this picture and the wording "are you mom enough?" The picture was unnatural and just looked posed. The KID doesn't even look like he is breastfeeding. Second, this is a forum where people should be able to come and post their opinions on a particular topic without other moms jumping down their throat like selfrightous bitches. I don't agree with the statement "if you don't like it move to Africa." That woman did not help her case at all. Thirdly, most everyone on here seems to have forgotten the definitions of the words FACT and OPINION. A fact is something that's has been scientifically or otherwise proven. An opinion is merely what somebody thinks of a topic. If they say they find breastfeeding past the age of 2 is disgusting that's their OPINION. When somebody come back with a link or quote from numerous doctors those are proven facts. I personally will not breastfeed past 18 months. That's my opinion, I'm entititled to it. So instead of jumping all over each other calling each other ignorant bitches etc, how about be sure you aren't just saying that bc of their opinion, bc options are like assholes everybody has one, better to let somebody state theirs, then you comment something nasty and make yourself not only look like the ignorant bitch, but an asshole as well.
It is so unnecessary to show someone breastfeeding their child at this age. We do not live in a culture that our children need this form of nourishment. They are self feeding and can eat and drink on their own. Not all bottle nipples are damaging to teeth, but more people complain more about extended bottle feeding, what's the difference? My 3 daughters were off the bottle between 14 and 16 months old. No pacifiers ever. My son who I nursed until 17 mos. old sucks his thumb. He is 10 and still does it while he sleeps. I can't take that away. I keep an eye on his teeth as does his dentist. I tell him it's not good and I take his thumb out when I catch him doing it. It's only my opinion and I know NO ONE that nurses their children, only their babies. To each his own, but it's not no one's business who nurses their children that long., I don't want it shown in my face either.
