My son (6) says he wants to play since he can't play football til next year.

Any suggestions, advice, warnings?

I know nothing about it!

My kids enjoyed playing soccer when they were younger. I always had fun watching them play.

I suggest you sign him up with the American Youth Soccer Organization. =D They are nation wide and AWESOME with the kids.

We're a total soccer loving family, Jen.

Viva la Futbol!

Oh, soccer cleats...biggest thing...make sure they're SOCCER cleats.  No cleat on the toe.  That's for baseball.   We found them at Goodwill when they were little like that.  There's no sense in buying a 30 dollar pair of shoes they'll be wearing for only six weeks.  That's nutty talk.

Sometimes when I'm alone, I like to Google myself.

Soccer is a great sport! I coach two teams, 1 U6 team and 1 U10 team.

at 6 they are just really learning the basics of the game..keep in mind that some people teach their kids to be aggressive early on..

our league U6 is 3v3 with no goalie, although you can keep a player back toward the net, they just can't use their hands like a goalie can.

Its an awesome sport. We love it!

We just go through the schools or the Y.  I've never heard of the American Youth Soccer Organization.

Our spring season just ended. :( We have our awards ceremony tonight. They don't keep standings for the little kids but my U10 team got 2nd place! We lost 2 games.

I cannot wait until Fall!

American Youth Soccer typically is what community soccer clubs are done through.

Does your area have any clubs locally?

My city's soccer club is done through youth soccer..

That is AWESOME!! We have 2 in soccer. My DD is in her last season in the U5 and my DS is in U8! They love soccer, they've tried others but always come back to soccer.

DD scored the 2 goals her team made last weekend. We have about 3 weeks left.
