Police says mother wasn't feeling well when she abandoned kids
A mother arrested on child cruelty charges told police she left her three children home alone because she wasn't feeling well.
Atlanta police said Lynn Danielle Warner is being held at Fulton County jail for leaving her kids - ages 8 months, 1, and 2 years old - in their apartment.
A child wandering unattended in the street Monday morning led a security guard to an apartment with two more unsupervised children, police said.
Police said they were called to northwest Atlanta's Villas at the Dome apartments on Rhodes Street before 6 a.m.
"We called an ambulance out," Kim Jones of the AtlantaDepartment told Channel 2's Ryan Young. "A couple of hours later, the mother called saying her children were not at home, where she was arrested."
Police said they do not know how long the children were left in the home unattended. But it appeared the children had been alone in the home for "some time," and were not just left home alone for a short time.
Neighbors walking in the neighborhood talked about their outrage.
"Wow, that's so horrible," one neighbor said. "People need to be careful. Never do nothing like that."
"To leave a baby by themselves in the house. That's insane," another neighbor said.
A security guard working at the property stated that he noticed one of the children at the top of the stairs in the apartment and another child at the bottom of the stairs.
He also stated that the downstairs of the apartment was in disarray and there was no food in the house. Police said the children were transported to Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital to be evaluated and DFACS was also notified.
The children were reported to be in healthy condition by medical personnel at the hospital. Around 8 a.m., Warner, the children’s mother, called 911 and reported them missing.
Police responded and placed her in custody. She has also been charged with reckless conduct.
Police said Monday's incident is not the first time Warner faced a child cruelty charge.
