YES I know it's long but WELL worth watching
Have things changed since I was in school? Other than my subjects of choice, my schools encouraged my creativity. I had a teacher fan base for some of my written works, LOL.
*will have to watch vid later, monster watching movie and I am not going to have a volume war at 7:30AM, LOL*
I'm not watching it, but will respond to the title.
Many schools do kill it, but not by choice. Where I used to teach, we were only allowed to teach reading and math. It was reading and math all flippin' day because the kids were low-performing. However, I did work in the ghetto and most kids attended several schools each year, due to moving to avoid testing. This, of course, led to a lot of holes in their learning.
We moved.
Our kids' schools do foster creativity, but they are also well performing schools. So, yeah, some do kill it, but it depends on where you live.
Oh I agree...
How can you be creative in anything as a child when they want you to sit down and stare forward while they talk about mind numbingly boring for 7 hours a day...
A girl in my speech class and myself have been able to see that first hand. We are the two oldest in the class and it's very obvious that most of the students just want to get a class over with and as long as they pass with the lowest grade they can, they don't care.
We've concluded, going to college is just something they are expected to do and classes not directly effecting their major, pending one has been chosen, they slack and mom and dad or the state is paying for their courses, so who cares, right?
We are there to improve our life bc we see how hard the real world is, value education and strive to do the best we can do.
Just my theory from being a student among just out of high school and still in high school students.
It's aimed a lot at the idea how shools want all kids to learn the same
Quoting Pnukey:I'm not watching it, but will respond to the title.
