Could You Ever Be a Surrogate Like This CafeMom member?

Stephanie's own parents had fostered children when she was growing up, but she and her husband weren't in a position to do the same. Instead, she decided to help a couple who couldn't carry a child on their own by being their surrogate. And wait until you hear about the delivery - there was a BIG surprise at the birth!

Do you think you could be a surrogate for another couple? Or have any of you been on the donating or receiving end of assisted fertility - donor sperm or eggs?

I've thought about being a surrogate, mostly because of what they will pay you, but i hate being pregnant.

Hmm...well....let's see...the average I have heard is $10,000. 10,000/9 is 1,111.11 a month. OR you could do 10,000/40 is 250 a week. Take the 250/5 which is $50 a day or $6.25 an hour if you were to work a full time job....that is $3 less than minimun wage in my state. It is not worth doing for the money.

I would love too, I love being pregnant and I hear the compensation is pretty good... but I believe you have to be married to participate... and I am not.  :-(

I was a surrogate. I would not recommend it. I'm writing a book on how horrible my journey was.

it would be worth it to me because im a SAHM and i really wouldnt have to do a whole lot, i know there are tests and all that but money is money and i wouldnt have another mouth to feed at the end of it all.

I've looked into it before and it actually ranges from about $20,000-$36,000. i just could never be a tradition surrogate.

I believe the average is more like $20,000.
