I worked in the babysitting room at an athletic facility, and per company policy, caregivers were not allowed to change a diaper with a BM...we had to go get the parent and then they had to leave their workout to come change Junior...how many times i heard, "oh just let him stay in it til i'm done"...really??? you expect us to deal with that stench while you work out and wont be back for an hour?  Not to mention, no other kids will play near him cuz he stinks, and h'es stinking up the entire room...i'm sorry i had to drag you out of your workout, but there is more to think about here than just your waistline..............  I think its rotten a mother thinks more of her workout, than to come change her toddler who is sitting in his own poop.

EDIT: It is written in the gym policy that the PARENT has to come change diapers. They KNEW  what they were signing, and KNEW they had to change their own kids, as it was reitterated when they visited the room.

It's against the law, not that they don't kno how...any gym I've used, I had to change my daughters diapers...but being a single mom with no family around, I am thankful that I can work out with my LO being watched, even if I may have to pause to change a diaper

Maybe I am old school, but if a gym doesn't want or know how to change a shitty diaper correctly and aviod doing it citing health concerns, then I would have zero confidance they could get me in shape! And while a service like that might be nice for some parents, for me, it would be an inconvience and I would find another gym AND babysitter!

Number one, its not against the law, its against the gym's policy, and I think it is shitty. (pardon the pun)

Two, I agree its a nice service but I still feel they should go all the way with it and give that single mom, like yourself, a totally uninterrupted workout and change a shitty diaper, do it correctly. If I were still in that stage of having little ones around and I was single, a gym that offered full service would be my number one choice and get my money. Otherwise, Iwould find someone who is willing to give me what I wanted and not be willing to let my kid sit is shit!

Church is way different than a state run facility. Yes you need a permit to handle bodily waste and dispose of it. Maybe its not a permit but a lisences at anyrate daycares ( in my state at least) need one. I worked in a well known state ran daycare and they to have a paper stating that they have a proper place to dispose of them.

Quoting mommy2b39465:

some bigger churches I know of have gloves for the nursery workers. One even has a nice little changing room with a glass window to see the other kids.

on the special place and permit: HA! I've never heard of having to get a special permit to change diapers or HAVING to have a special changing room, lol. Most places just have a changing table. Please, PLEASE tell me that's some politician's attempt at a good idea and it'll fizzle out? Cuz if someone tries to bring that rule down here all our business owners are gonna be like 'Say WHAT?'

Quoting cherrywaves21:

If I not mistaken ( I could be ) poopy diapers involves more bodily waste that spreads bacteria easily even with hand washing. It's actually common place in ones that aren't huge chains.

ETA: you have to have a special place and permit for daycare workers to change a dirty diaper.

i think u guys should be allowed to change them, the point of the babysitting room is to get an UNINTURUPTED workout!  but since u cant change them, yes they should come change them, but the policy sucks

Our gym here is like that, they have to come get you to change the poppy diapers and I think that's ridiculous that a mother would let their child sit in its mess like that! Poor kid.

I've been in a "nursery room" but it was at a bowling alley there was no changing table and if you're bowling tough come change the poopy diaper.

I haven't found a gym around here in socal that that isn't the policy, but it would be cool if I could...and they don't allow my child to sit in poo, they just page me and I come and change her in the bathroom...but I can see what you're saying

Those poor babies!  At my gym (the Y) it's the policy that you have to be in the childrens room within 10 minutes, of being contacted by the day care.  I couldn't imagine a mother being okay with their child in a poopy diaper. :(

Our Y has the same policy. It's not a big deal. People just need to go change their kids then go back to their workout.

My gym had the same policy. The lady who worked in the playroom was always super nice and my kids adored her. She was apologetic when she had to come get me for a change, and I always said, no please do come tell me! I don't want y'all to deal with that. Of course, it figures my son would always wait til we got to the gym!! I can't imagine making him wait.
