when someone visits you at your home **EDIT** ETA, Why I'm asking

Posted by   + Show Post
and you want to give them some sort of refreshment, do you just bring it to them or do you offer it to them first?

**EDIT**
the reason I'm asking is that apparently in my culture it's rude to offer someone something when they visit. It is said u're just supposed to bring them whatever it is. I only found this out recently. Growing up, my mum would always offer first and that's what I do now.

I know it's my culture but this is completely weird imo. What do you think?

I ask them if they want a drink. If they say yes, I say we have this, this & that. What would you like? If they say no I will say ok, if you get thirsty let me know, we have this, this & that.

Usually only family visits tho so I will ask & tell them to help themselves.

I alway offer first.  I might just set out food -- but not 'expecting' that they 'have'to take any.

No, you always offer first. It is rude to assume what other people want in our culture. Also the reason why ordering for others has gone out of style.

What is your culture? Just curious.
