ladies, my DH had a vasectomy done a week ago...the dr came out and said there was some "complications" with the left side-a lot of bleeding I guess. My poor DH walked out of the office and then ended up coming super close to passing out-his BP dropped crazy and he was sweating more than if we worked out for hours on end. He acted all lethargic and wasn't responding to me. I had to run and get someone to help but anyways this was over a week ago (last Wed) and to be honest, I hadn't even looked at him to see anything until tonight and he showed me and told me he was still ina  LOT of pain. I couldn't believe my eyes. He is EXTREMELY swollen still and half of his penis is all black and blue. Is this normal??? He goes back Tues but he asked me if I would ask on here if other women's DH's had experienced this... How long was your DH in pain (I would say fairly severe) and aldo the bruising...how long did that last? Thanks for any help/insight!

So I just spoke with the actual dr who performed it and she said it was "no big deal." I mean seriously!! WTF?! She thinks it was just a blood vessel and to ice it and take pain meds. I am making him seeing someone tomorrow this is ridiculous...

I just asked my husband, and he said this does not sound normal at all.  You should take him in to the emergency room.  I doubt it's something to freak out over (he's not going to lose his penis), but he might have a blockage or an infection that should really be looked at sooner rather than later.

Quoting Ashmom614:

omg... I am freaking out. Black and blue bruising from half his penis down all the way past his balls. And the balls are at least twice the size. FREAKING OUT...no fever

No, my DH was fine in about 2 days.  By black and blue, do you mean simply bruised?  What do you mean by swelling?  How big is it (compared to normal-like twice the size?  etc)  Is it really sore to the touch?  Does he have a fever?  I'm thinking your DH needs to get back in asap.  Not Tues.  There might be a blockage.  It sounds concerning to me.

I replied in your other post. My DH had sever complications (his "ves" vein was too deep & they REALLY had to dig, it took over 2 hours) and he did not really swell a whole lot and had NO black bruises. It took a week to feel comfortable again, but nothing at all like what you are talking about!

I would go to the ER ASAP!!

I think he should see a different urologist just to make sure things down there are ok. The other guy may be downplaying things do he doesnt get in trouble. I am so sorry! We went for a consult and the urologist said he'd be swollen and tender for a few days but that's it and that if he wanted to have sex right after the procedure he could if he wante to. ( I was prego at the time so no worries about lingering swimmers) we didn't get it done but from what our urologist said your husband shouldn't look or feel that way.

My xdh had it done on a Friday and was back to work on Monday. No pain, swelling, or bruising! I was even allowed to sit in on the procedure..it took about 10 mins.
I would be extremely worried with what you are describing. I would definitely take him in to the ER! Better safe then sorry!
Keep us posted!

DH had a vasectomy last July. He was never in any severe pain, just uncomfortable for a few days. He wore a jockstrap to keep things from bouncing around for about a month. He didn't run or exercise for six weeks. He had slight swelling but no bruising at all. From my experience, what your DH is going through is not normal.
