We have a duel graduation party today and we decided since we aren't really close to these graduates, they're the children of old family friends, we would just get some little gifts to open but as the main gift we'd give them gift cards. We bank at a credit union without a physical office locally so thought we'd just go buy a gift card at a local bank as we have done in the past...NO, THE BANKS THAT EVEN HAVE GIFT CARDS ONLY SELL THEM TO CUSTOMERS WITH ACCOUNTS! Please understand we are talking about BUYING something and I would think that since they often charge as much as ten dollars they wouldn't mind since it takes about two minutes total for their employee to process it. It would be easier to buy illegal drugs on a corner some where than it is to find a bank that would sell a gift card, that's just crazy. THIS WAS JUST A VENT, I DON'T WANT TO BUY DRUGS, IT WAS JUST HYPERBOLE!
I was aware that they sold gift cards all over but had read that it was best to buy them from a bank because of all the scams involving the cards just sitting around at the stores and was trying to be a "cautious" consumer. In the end, and after my husband went to two banks and I called three more, we gave up and bought them at Walgreens. I did insist though that my husband get ones that were behind the counter since the consumer warnings did say that was the safest policy. I tend to be rather cautious and would hate to gift something that would not be usable to the recipient.
Do u have a Walmart close I know at some check outs they have a buttload of different gift cards not just for the store
You can buy a gift card at a store and it doesn't have to be a store affliated one. I got my DH and American Express gift card for his birthday so he can use it anywhere.
Banks do suck something awful. We switched to a credit union, and have lot looked back. Its MUCH better. Anyhow, if your nearby a Kroger or Walmart they sell GC's to lots of different places. HTH! :)
