Student Loan Ideas?

Hi Ladies,

I am hoping to get some ideas regarding student loans for college.

I recently graduated in December 2011 with my bachelor degrees. I am trying to go back to school in the fall. I have decided that I want to go to college for Speech Language Pathology (SLP). I can't go directly to the master's program because I need to do a 1 year post-baccalaureate program to do leveling classes since I don't have the prerequisites for the masters program.

Okay, so here's the scoop. It is a 3 semester program and financial aid will cover part of the tuition cost. SO and I have a budget planned so that we can pay for the Spring and Summer semesters ourselves. The problem is that I need a loan for fall semester and I cannot get one without a co-signer.

My parents are not eligible to be cosigners. We asked SO's dad if he will co-sign and he said he will... BUT he has some unreasonable requests that we must do before he would cosign. I wont get into his requests, but his requests are simply not an option for us. The only other cosigners I can think of would be my two bosses, but they barely know me. =/ Should I ask them?

I need ideas on what we can do to come up with the money we need. Does anyone know of loans you can get without a cosigner? Tips on helpful websites?

Our last option is to get a payday loan, but the interest on that would be around 20% Eeeeeek!! I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything we can do? (fyi: I've already spoken to a financial aid counselor and she said to apply for a private student loan, which I did... but I need a cosigner. )

Thanks for any tips!

OH and if anyone here has ever gotten a payday loan, what was your experience? I've heard horror stories from ppl who have gotten payday loans. =/

Pay day loans are terrible. I had horrible credit and still got a private student loan no problem, student loans are pretty easy to get.

No, it is not appropriate to ask your boss to cosign a loan.  And I'd stay away from payday loans.  Sorry I don't have any suggestions for other sources.

What student loan lender did you go through? I actually have pretty good credit, I think I need a cosigner because I don't have a lot of credit history though. I applied for some Med loan through Wells Fargo and they said I need a cosigner.

I'd love it if you could tell me who you went through. I'd really like to avoid a payday loan.

My mom had a really bad experience with Sallie Mae so I am really nervous to go with them. Have you gotten a loan through them?

You should not need a cosigner for student loans unless things have changed drastically since I was in college.

I would never ask a boss to cosign a loan

You don't need a cosigner for federal loans (ie: stafford) and I was able to get some federal financial aid that covers a bit of my tuition. Private loans apparently need a cosigner.. at least that is what Wells Fargo told me. They are the only bank I've applied for a loan with though.

I've got several! I've never had a problem with them! Their rules are a lot more relaxed than a regular bank, so you probably wouldn't even need a cosigner!
