I taught myself how to make Krispy Kreme doughnuts. :(. Why did I do that? They turned out fabulous.
Recipie
2 pkgs yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 1/2 cups luke warm milk
1/2 cup sugar
1tsp salt
2 eggs
1/3 cup butter
5 cups flour
1 quart veggie oil for frying
Glaze
1/3 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
4 tbsp hot milk.
Mix the yeast with the water and let it sit about 5 minutes. Add the milk, sugar, eggs, salt, butter, vanilla and 2 cups flour. Mix until combined and slowly add the rest of the flour. Mix until dough mostly doesn't stick to the bowl. Knead dough until smooth and elastic. I used the dough hook on my kitchen aid and let it go for about 8 minutes. Then set in an oiled bowl, covered in a warm place until doubled. It takes about an hour.
Turn dough onto counter and roll out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut with drinking glass and make the hole with a very small cookie cutter or press it out with your finger. Let them rise until almost double and then fry in oil that is about 325 degrees.
They fry fast! Mix up your glaze and then dip the warm doughnuts in. Yum!
Sorry forgot to add the 1tsp vanilla in the dough recipie. It adds alot of flavor.

No kidding! We normally eat doughnuts twice a year. This could be bad! They were rediculously easy to make. The dough is really fun to play with. It's so elastic and smooth. My kids had a blast making their own shapes to cook.
