See what CafeMoms are saying about saving time this holiday season..
I've been a military something for 40 years. My life has revolved around the military. My grandfather was a paratrooper during WWII and Korea, where he had this tumor form on the back of his brain. In Vietnam, he was in an area that was dusted with Agent Orange, and a year later, he was dead from brain cancer. I spent five years fighting for my grandmother to receive more from her widows pension.
My other grandfather was wounded on a ship during WWII where shrapnel entered his body. After 60 years that shrapnel caused all kinds of problems, and again, I was helping him fight with VA for compensation.
My dad literally burned his uniform when he got out and REFUSES anything the VA has to offer.
So when DH got hurt and it eventually ended his military career, I knew shit was gonna be tough.
What I didn't know was all the bullshit the military and the VA were now pulling.
He is injured as a direct result of his activities in the Army, including those at war. He can't work, he's tried, and every time he's spent the entire next day in the ER or a week in the hospital after working one damn shift. He's fucking broken, and I don't blame him......
I've been trying to get help with the medical bills from the VA. At the time he got out of the Army, I had TWO years of pay in savings.
The Medical bills have eaten that away along with everything I made while trying to work. Do you know how fucking impossible it is to work and take care of my sick mother, my broken husband, AND try to go to college?
Anyway, I know his rating would take a while. I knew it'd be a while before we saw a dime from the VA. But when my granddad was sick, they always helped him. When my grandmother was sick, she always had her medical paid for. We NEVER had to worry about that.
Fort Campbell didn't medically retire him. That's a whole another post though, instead, they allowed him to work out his contract by putting him in bullshit jobs, and then transferring him out during his last deployment, where he was deployed with a P-3 profile.
YES I"VE WRITTEN MY CONGRESS AND SENATE REP!!!!! YES WE HAVE A DAV REP!!!
And yet, we are still waiting 2 fucking years for the VA to rate him before they will pay for ANYTHING.
Oh and DFAS fucked up our DITY paperwork, because Campbell couldn't move us because everyone was moving, and now, they are charging us 2500 dollars, THAT I DON"T FUCKING HAVE.
So yeah, Fuck it all, I give up. Bout to sit on a corner with a damn sign.
So thanks to a poster, we got in touch with the Texas Veterans Affairs. We've got an appointment at the VA in Shreveport, and some answers. We have a long road ahead of us, as there was plenty we did not know, in fact there's a lot we've never heard of that's only recently been instituted. It's gonna be a long fight, and a tiresome one.
Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions. They really helped.
