This is why I don't understand getting riled up about what people are wearing...

I was at Target today, just purchasing one thing. I noticed when I got in line that the lady in front of me had B.O. and was dressed very sloppy. She was wearing *gasp* PJ pants and a spaghetti strap tank top with her bra showing and some house shoes. I was just in line minding my own business when I noticed she was crying. She was about $2 short to get her things and was having a hard time trying to decide what she should keep or put back. I stepped forward and said, "Ma'am, I have two dollars, don't worry about it," and handed my card to the clerk. She tried to say no but I said no please, I have been there before, I want to help you. So while her things were being bagged and I checked out with my one little item, she told me her story. Her home burned down and they lost everything. They were staying in a shelter for a few days while waiting for their insurance to come in. In the meantime, they were relying completely on donations and since we've had fires and this huge drought, the shelter had almost nothing to offer them so she was at Target buying decent clothes and personal hygeine products.

This type of thing is exactly why I don't understand all the posts saying, "If you go out in PJ pants, you obviously don't care about yourself!" That person could have just gotten out of the hospital and needed medicine. They could have just gotten back from a long road trip and needed groceries ASAP. Or they could have been in a fire and living out of their car- you DON'T know, so WHY even waste your time wondering or worrying about it?

People do it simply because it's so much easier to look down on others so that they can feel superior about themselves. I try my best to not judge others and I'm a very open minded person. But I also have slip ups where I'll look at someone and think to myself "wtf were they thinking".

It's natural instinct to judge someone. Some people don't even realize they are doing. Is it right? No. But everybody does it

It's a natural instinct to judge in order to keep ourselves safe. You cannot tell me that juding a woman for wearing PJ's in public has anything to do with our natural biological instincts for survival. That's not judging, that's being judgemental.

I was kind of judgemental as a teen and one day I told my dad about my friend and then said its kind of gross he always wears the same sweater. Then my dad said to me well that may be all he has. I never thought about it like that. So now I'm a lot less quick to judge someone one what they are wearing because really you never know..

people are so stuck in making judgements about people.. looking at others and determining whether they are 'right' or 'wrong' or 'good' or 'bad' and making judgements and having feelings about them for it instead of just seeing them as other people just like yourself.

That's sad and I can tell you that really happens. I've had students who were teased for wearing the same hoodie all the time. Come to find out, they didn't have any other jackets.
