Back in June just before graduation (2 days before)we got a letter saying my son failed the math test and had to go to summer school and re take the test beginning of August. Missing out on his 8th grade graduation. However when he started Summer school they goofed big time and put in him an English Language Arts class instead. I've been dealing with them for 2 weeks trying to get it switched and for him to be put in a Math class. However the Computer had him down for E.L.A , well computers are gods and can not be questioned. I called again this morning and finally got a hold of the Principal from the school my son went to. (the summer school session has kids from several different schools) First he tells me that they corrected the situation and that he will be in a math class today!!! Then he goes on to tell me that my son is one of the 7000 kids in nyc that are in Summer school that actually passed the test. The preliminary reports said he failed but did in fact pass. So he missed out on graduation and has been in summer school for a class he never needed help in for no reason. The actual test results came in last week and in nyc there are 32,000 kids that were recommended for Summer school but turns out that just over 7000 kids actually passed the test. 1,229 of those kids were in the 8th grade. I do have the option of letting him continue in summer school to get some extra help if i so desire.
