Can someone tell me California laws on corporal punishment?

 Is spanking legal? Can it only be one with a hand (no wooden spoons, belts, etc)?

In Sc a dss (like cps) worker told my friend that you can spanking with 2 fingers and that's it. Anything more its abuse. Don't know if its true but that's what ive been told.

 Lol, I find that hard to believe.  But I think it varies by state and I need to know CA specifically. :)

The link talks about child abuse but at the bottom, it says that spanking is generally excluded from child abuse laws.

Law not intended to prohibit the use of reasonable methods of parental discipline, or to prescribe a particular method of parenting. Serious physical harm does not include reasonable and age-appropriate spanking to the buttocks where there is no evidence of serious physical injury.
Welfare and Institutions Code § 300. [Civil Code]
