When can children start drinking Pediasure?
My 6 month old has Failure to Thrive due to GERD and he's having a very tough time gaining any weight so at some point I think I'm going to start Pediasure. I'm almost positive I can't start it now but i'd like to know for future reference.

Need to deal with the GERD. Pedisure is a liquid so its not going to help you. You need to focus on getting that GERD under control at least enough that eating isn't painful then you can focus on HEALTHY high calorie foods. Foods stay down much better. Are you thickening milk?? What are you doing for the GERD? Have you had a swallow study yet??

Is he on a prescription? Nexium, Prilosec? My son was on formula until a little over a year then we switched him to pediasure. At 15 months he had surgery to tighten his stomach. He is now solely on pediasure and in feeding therapy to try an get him to eat with a spoon.

Ds started just before 2. You really should get him to a specialist for the GERD. Ds nearly died from it because I was following his peds advice and "waiting for him to grow out of it". It dosen't always go away and pediasure is not going to help it.
Not trying to come across mean. But after almost losing my son to this, it has become a passionate subject.
Look into taking him to see chiropractor. It has worked wonders for ds's issues!

Mandee....you sound like someone I need to talk to. It looks like we may be in the same boat. He's on 3 prescriptions...Prevacid, Reglan, and Erythromyacin. We've had tons of studies done when he was hospitalized and had to go home with apnea monitors and a feeding tube but since the feeding tube has come out he isn't gaining near to close of what he should be. He gets BM and he is on solids and I give him as much as he'll take but right now he's only taking 2oz and I'm having to almost force it in him. They have talked about surgery but since the Prevacid is working for now they have not done it but its still a possibility. Although he had another Apnec episode this morning. Does he go to OT for feeding therapy? We had an OT in the hospital but he since has not used one.

Yes we go to Ot. Also pt but for his cp. Ds was ftt at 5/6 month. They gave us the same medicine. In the end he was choking on reflux and turning blue. His GI got her head out of her butt and referred us to a surgeon. I do not regret the surgery one bit! We had a mic-key feeding tube but had it removed 6 months later because we didnt use it. Keep a close eye on the weight and if you feel he needs surgery, push for it. Get him into specialists if that will help. We have changed several drs to find the right fit.

He does see several specialists and Gastro is the one following us. The one question I have that has deferred us from surgery is I read that after surgery to tighten the Sphincter they can do a lot of gagging and choking while eating...do you have this problem? CP, Cerebral Palsy?

Also, what age was his surgery done? Hub and I are VERY nervous about it. None of our children have had to go thru surgery and him being sooo small makes us nervous already. We see Gastro tomorrow so we'll see what the game plan is.

Cerebral palsy yes, he had the surgery at 15 months. I know other babies who had it younger. It's called a fundoplication nissen. And because you baby is so young they will require the feeding tube. We had the g tube also called a mic-key button. Which is super easy to use/ clean etc. we only used ours for venting then had it removed because ds didn't need it. Plus he burps a little on his own now anyway. He's only 20 months. Gagging and retching can occur. Ds only does when I force his medicine down his throat. The only way I can get him to take it. I am willing to answer any questions. I'm also in the special needs group.
