i will never grasp why people think it is okay to blow extra money when you can cover your family's needs. It may be a small amount, but it adds up. self sufficiency is worth far more than any tattoo would be. I would rather be able to take care of my family than have a new tattoo....thinking differently is just plain ridiculous. Do you know how many people who dont get assistance go without wants for YEARS so that they can take care of their family and THEN live a lifestyle where they can afford NEEDS AND WANTS? Why doesnt everyone want that?

Yes, it adds up over the course of years, not over the course of a single month. We are talking about the kind of change that can be found in sofa cushions. I really doubt that saving up a few dollars a month is what is breaking their budget. The fact that they even have enough sense to save rather than recklessly put it on a credit card tells me that they're working hard to put those few dollars away each week and they deserve to eventually reach their goal. They can save up the same amount over a year or two and still not be able to afford an entire month of groceries. You're being ridiculous by pretending that saving up a few dollars a week is what is going to get them off of PA.

Let this one go.

but it still comes down to responsibility. A responsible person would not waste money when they can not care for their family. That is putting your family second and frivolity first...

No, that is realizing that you work to live, not live to work.

Just by getting up and going to their job every day and doing everything they can to provide without recklessly spending more than they bring in (but unfortunately being unable to meet their basic neds) they are caring for their family.

I don't know how you can even belittle someone who saves up a few dollars a week to reward themselves for all of their hard work a year or two down the line.

It's like you think they should be doomed to a life of nothingness all because they don't make enough money to get above the poverty line. Should they bow down to our superiority, too? Maybe kiss our feet when they see us and thank us for all we provide them with by contributing a few cents off each of our own cheques to support PA?

Ugh.

No I don't agree. In my state a family of 4 gets $644 a month. Getting your nails done is like what $30 bucks? I don't know because I don't get them done but I'm assuming it's around that. If they got their nails done every 2 weeks that's only $60 bucks. $60 bucks is NOT going to feed a family of 4 for a month.

what a bunch of crap.  Bow down to what??  I many times in my life went without any type of extras because I COULDNT afford them.  Thats called being a responsible adult.  If you want more WORK for it...better your life this country has more free programs for irresponsible woman than any country on this planet.  BUT you gotta work for it....
