how soon do you pack for vacation?

i have like 5 suitcases to pack oh boy! for my husband,daughter 1 1/2 years old and son 4 years old. we are leaving for 8 days it takes 17 hours to get there probably longer because of alot of stops that we will be having. when do you think i should start packing i have 5 days left until we leave i'm getting nervous and anxious. i already started a list on what to bring weeks ago, but the day before and the day of i have tons of stuff to do i'm afraid i'll forget something. when do you think i should pack?

You should have been packing 3 weeks ago according to my way of pakcing. I start a month out. I have lists that I tapes to the top of suitcase of what needs to go in( 2comlete outfits per day for kids). I would have a cooler and small container for snacks packed, I would have a box of things to keep them busy(make sure some are new) packed, small trash can with small bags to fit in car ready, extra diape bag packed and ready. I am leaving Aug 25th.I have had some of our stuffed pack for 2 weeks already. I have a running list and then off shoot lists.

We travel often, I pack the day before. I used to be one of those weeks before packers.....but found that only led to over packing and over thinking. I make lists of whats needed and then just pack that. You know where everything is, its your stuff. All you have to do is put it in suitcases.

I started packing formy trip to England I started a couple weeks before. Basically I had bought new packs of socks and underwear that I packed. I also had been buying new clothes that I would pack. For four of us we only used three suitcases. Two really big ones and one smaller.

I pack a couple days before, and I pack for 6 people. It's easier to do it last minute as long as you have an organized list of what's needed.

 we are leaving for Fl fromTexas on Thursday,...me, dh and three kids...we pack 5 outfits total for each family member and we put them in the huge ziplock bag to save space in the van. I have a reusable grocery bag for toiletries and a cooler...the kids each take a small bag of games and a packet of lessons about each state we will be driving thru...we are going to start packing Tuesday...I aim to take very little as we will also be traveling with our dog and need space in the van

A couple of days before, depending. We take 3 suitcases (one for DH, one for me and one for our son) and a couple of smaller bags for our boy for his books and toys, DH's laptop and another bag for our electronics (chargers, headphones, that sort of thing) and a few snacks for the road trip.
