Can you freeze jarred spaghetti sauce? I have half a jar leftover and won't use it anytime soon and don't want it to go to waste.

pour the liquid sauce into a ziploc bag, and freeze it flat on a plate. it'll last awhile that way. don't freeze glass if you can help it.

2 bucks for a pound of ground beef

2 bucks for a pound of ground pork

Mushrooms are really cheap usually can get enough for a dollar

Italian seasoning is always in my house and costs about 3 dollars

Carrots are under a dollar

Parmasan cheese is about 3 bucks.

So if i break it down it adds up to 12 dollars sorry I was wrong. But still cheap

Can you break down the costs? I'm not seeing how all of that would only be ten dollars. Do you live in the US? Though even at ten dollars, its still more expensive to make your own.

Quoting kansasmom1978:

Yes I put hamburger and ground pork in my sauce. As well as tomatoes, tomato sauce, fresh mushrooms, shredded carrot, parmasan cheese, Italian seasoning and it's yummy! It costs about 10 bucks to make a batch and it will provide enough sauce for 3 meals.

Quoting christina0607:

I have to agree, I wouldn't bother to save it.

But....I don't find making my own cheaper. Do you put meat in your sauce?

Quoting kansasmom1978:

Ew why would u save that crap. Homemade is cheaper anyways. I would not freeze the jar it may crack or shatter. If you must save the stuff, put it in another container.

Where do you buy ground beef. For 2 dollars? Pretty buying the frozen tubes? The country average is like 3.44. You're doing pretty good.

You also forgot all the tomato products.

I don't find it expensive to make sauce....you just said it cheaper than buying jar. Which theres no way.

We get our meet wholesale from Tyson. And in my opinion, it's cheaper because a batch of sauce makes enough for several meals, it tastes a ton better and is healthier for you. That jar crap is nasty. Our tomato products come from our veggie garden. So free.

Wel first off I have to tell you - you should never eat jarred sauce but.. since you have.

put it in a plastic container and it will freeze and thaw just fine.

no do not freeze it because once open it starts to go bad.

Yes you can.  Just leave about an inch or so at the top so it can expand.

I agree!  You can freeze almost anything.  Or make a meatloaf and mix it in, or goulash.  Spaghetti sauce can become almost anything!

Quoting etsmom:

You can. Put it into a different container or ziploc freeer bag and freeze it. I think it is good for about 3 months.  I do all the time and I make lasagna with leftover sauce.

I make my own sauce all the time.

I get those #10 cans of tomatoes and puree from sams, I believe each #10 can is 5 dollars, I get three

I start my sauce with pork ribs - about 4 dollars worth, onions and garlic

I add to it basil and parsley which is free because I grow it.

I do add cheese to it Locatelle - which is pretty expensive - about 8 dollars worth.

So over all cost 25-30 bucks,

I yield  three gallons of sauce, I put them in quart containers - 12 of them.

depending on what i make with them - I use one or two quarters per meal.

So it yeilds 6-12 meals so at most I spend 5 dollars for sauce for a meal, at best 2 dollars.

which is about what you can get a jar sauce for.

however MY sauce is SO MUCH BETTER.
