I am purchasing a new car today and need a new booster seat for DS since I have been driving my moms car and have been using her booster that she has for all the kids (shes is lucky they are relatively the same hight/weight as they are all.just a few months apart) and I am not going to be able to take it for my car. What are some good not so super expensive options?

My ds is 5, 42 inches tall and is 43lbs.

How come? He is tall enough and meets weight requirements to be in a booster.

You really should consider a harnessing seat but if you won't, check out the car seat safety group for recommendations. We have a Cybex booster. It was $100 but definitely worth it. DS fits great and loves it. He also has a maestro in booster mode but that isn't something to buy only as a booster. It has a short shell too and he's about to outgrow it. :-(

Britax frontier 85. He can harness for a while longer and then it turns into a booster. My 5 year old is 48 inches tall and 39-40lbs and he loves his. Let him pick which color and he wont mind getting in it.

Kyle Miller was a little boy who met the requirements for a booster seat. There was a car accident and he died because he was in a booster seat. The website is FULL of stories of kids who lived because they were in a harnessed seat. IF you buy the Britax another Mom reccomended, you can harness him till he is 8 or 9 and then use it as a booster.  So it will last  5 or 6 years.

My youngest son was harnessed till he was 9 years old.
