What's a good starter camera? Up to about $500

I would love a decent camera. That takes nice video and is easy to use too.

I don't want a bunch of lenses, maybe two if I had to.

Canon?

I say go for the D3100. I have the D5000, but I'm looking to upgrade my body. The 3100 is a great starter dSLR. It's easy to use and it's a little more compact than some of the other ones. And, if you're just taking randoms and the occasional kid portrait, the kit lens will be sufficient.

just thought i would put this out there for thought it dont matter what kind of camera you have if you dont take the time to learn how to use it you wont get good pictures. you can have a $3000 camera and still take crappy pictures. and i wouldnt buy a camera just for video since mostly you buy a camera to take pictures. my Nikon D5000 takes video fine sometimes it will be out of focus when im messing with the manual focus
