Does your child's elem school have an extended day program???

Does anyone here have any experience with a child in an extended day program at their elementary school where they stay on campus after hours?  The program here says they provide a snack and homework assistance and then play time for the kids until the parents pick them up.

I am going to register my daughter today since her daycare changed their hours to 6 and I wouldn't get there until 6:30.   But my mom says she doesnt think it would be as "secure" as a daycare, since daycares have locked doors and the school lets the kids play outside! I think if the school is secure enough for me to send her to during school hours they would maintain the safe environment after hours too......

any opinions??

THANKS!

I'm sure mine does, it's not something I use. But sure, it would be secure.

But why don't they hav elocked doors. I've never heard of an elementary school not locking the doors.

The YMCA runs the before and after school program here. I don't use it, but I have heard good things about it.

They keep the front door unlocked during school hours but the front desk is right there and visitors are required to check in.  my mom is just paranoid and crazy and i think watches to many crime shows.

1 mom liked this
In first DS begged me to enroll him. My job changed and he got his wish. He loved it. I never worried about safety because I trust the school and they had a lot of aides.

I'm homeschooling now, but the neighborhood school does have an after hours program, but no idea late it is however since we never used it (wasn't necessary for us).

The other stay home moms and I let our kids play after school and the extended Kids usually join us a little after school lets. Seems well staffed

I am blown away by that. I'm not sure that I would send my kids that school.

That is just odd.

Make someone happy today, mind your own business.

It's the same school I went to k-5th grade and I survived.  haha.
