My 11 year old has 3 fillings on permanent teeth and one extraction already

My oldest has his dads horrible teeth. I got him braces a month ago so his teeth will move over the one molar that was extracted. My son had a root canal at 7. I am honestly scared for him. Since he has gotten the braces I am super anal about his teeth. I make him brush twice a day  and at night I check his teeth to make sure there is no tarter and he has brushed right and then I floss his teeth at night. I do this my younger kids too. I have ok teeth. I have a ton of fillings. But dh is 31 and has dentures and I worry about my kids getting his bad teeth. Does anyone else's kids have filling on permanent teeth?

My daughter had scarlet fever when she was eight. Her permanent teeth never grew right due to this. Every tooth is now capped. Shes 17.

Ds9 had an abscessed tooth pulled when he was seven or eight, I forget.  He still fights the dentist even if it's just a cleaning. I think he has one filling.  Ds12 has no cavities but I think he's inheriting our disposition to gum disease.  My gums are bad and now I'm very careful about flossing.  I bought them a water pik and electric brushes to use.

I've never had a cavity. Neither have my children.

Me and DH have horrible teeth. That said, My oldest DD has had 1 minor filling because her teeth overlapped. I don't worry so much about brushing, flossing, or any of that stuff. I just make sure they drink lots of water to help rinse their teeth through out the day.

I think sometimes dental problem are caused by our over cleaning.

My oldest has never had a filling, my youngest has three. She's 16 yo, and takes much better care of her teeth now, the fillings were from problem teeth when she was younger.

I have bad teeth as well and it seems like my son has my teeth too, but he hasn't had a cavity yet.

To be honest, it's most likely because you just started getting anal about his teeth. Just started making him brush twice a day, and just started checking their teeth.

They need to brush their teeth daily from the time they get teeth and start solid foods. I brush my kids teeth as well. They do their own brushing but before or after I brush their teeth as well. 7 is too young to be able to brush their teeth well enough.

Sounds like you need to stop buying junk food?- I am kidding!

Seriously.  I have my moms bad teeth, had braces, rubberbands, and this palette thing across my mouth, my mom had to turn the key each night in it, so my upper teeth would expand.! good luck to him.

My kids all do.  They have deep grooves in the back teeth.  the ones that were not sealed in time have fillings.  DD also had a tooth pulled.  SHe had an abcessed tooth.  She also has a hole in her front tooth that she was born with and they filled in with white amalgum.  Im not worried about dentures.
