Dining room was a little dressier than that. Formal nights were waaayyy dressy. On informal nights I still wore a cocktail type dress with flats.

What about for the guys. Would a pair of khaki cargo shorts and a polo work?

Are you doing the Timed dinners? Or the come after such and such time? If you do the timed formal dining (what we did) that would be way under dressed. The last night we even wore evening gowns. Our table all dressed up. Dh wore a button up dress shirt and slacks.

Any that I've been on, shorts would be ok for the cafes but not the dining room. Sundresses, khakis, polos, no shorts or tee shirts with "stuff" on them. Cocktail dress and slacks/jacket for formal night. Some people do black tie but it's not the norm anymore, especially on a family line like carnival.

The carnival website has a list of acceptable clothing for each type of night. I found that very helpful.

No shorts in the dining room. They won't allow it. I've been on 13 cruises. They want women in slacks, skirts with dress shirts or dresses. Formal nights they prefer black tie.. ( men- slacks, shirts, khaki with polo will work as well)

No the dining room is more dressy. You dont have to eat in there if you dont want to dress up though.
