DH wants to be a fireman and he has a really really good chance of getting in if he applies.
Ladies who are or have been married to a fireman, what was the recruitment phase like for you and what is it like having a husband who isnt home so much??
Anything else you want to tell me before we take this step??
UPDATE: so to answer some recurring questions, he is going to be doing it as a career and as far as I can tell thus far, its 3 days on 4 days off... VERY different to what our lives are like now. And he will be attending the academy for 16 weeks and they said its a live in academy so I dont think he will be coming home every evening from that.
I am really excited about all this, just nervous that there is some big piece I am missing that is going to make it too hard :/
husband isnt a firefighter , but he is not home much bc of his job. Its defenitly an ajusment for the whole family on that part but its do able.
Good luck to your husband :) we always can use more firefirghters
My bff's husband is doing the academy in north Carolina right now and its a 26 week academy. He is home every night and has to do some shifts at the station that sponsored him everyweek.
Me and my husband volunteer and its a commitment that totally worth it.
My ex fiance was a volunteer firefighter. It's a totally different lifestyle than what you're used to. He would get up in the middle of the night to go fight fires...it's scary.
If your not already use to him not being around it will be an adjustment. There are nights where im scared shitless about him but thats just bc of stories from past things so you might get that too. Is he gonna be career or volunteer?
If he has a true calling for it, dont ley your fears deter him.
my ex was a fireman.. but I am an EMT, we are both volunteer.. He did work part time for a paid department too.. 24 hours every month..
My current bf, is an OTR truck driver and home once every two weeks... We talk a lot on the phone and our time together becomes more about quality rather than quanity.
