Do you get it?
I also think they should have a third option-somewhat reduced lunch
We don't get either but we for sure don't make enough to even think about buying lunch every day -I told the kids I would buy lunch once a week-
Our one kiddo it is 2.50 a day and the other is 2.60 a day-oh my!! No way! We missed reduced lunch by a couple thousand dollars now reduced lunch is 40 cents/day and 50 cents/day
I think they should have another bracket where option like 1.10/day and 1.20/day or something like that-
What do you get? What do you think?
We do make sack lunches and we do feed them-- it is just we make a little over the income and we can't afford school lunch but it would be nice if we could afford a few days a week and if it was a little reduced (not all the way) we could

*sarcasm font* Oh, no. We have to pay to feed our children. What ever shall we do.
I don't understand the griping about feeding kids. They are people, they need to eat. Feed them what you can, and deal with it. If you can't afford school lunches, feed them a sack lunch. Not a big deal.
In the last two years they have gone up about 75 cents due to they are trying to make more nutritious and more choices-
Quoting tennisgal:tha'ts kinda high. were do you live?? the lunches here are $1.85 for elem and $2.00 for high school. we're homeschoolers, but that's what they were when I was in school (I'm 27) and we always bought our lunch.
we don't have that-not even us parents have a smart phone. Our host daughter has a cell phone because her sister gave hers to borrow for the year-
Quoting TexasRDA:But you better believe half of them will have their smart phone!
My kids are in private school. We pay a flat fee for their lunches in the begining of the school year. I think it is $850 per child. The lunches are awesome.
But that's the idea... it's a nice nice not a necessity!! There are tons of things that it would be nice if I could do but it just isn't in my budget so I don't!!

Quoting Punkie74:Then their father didn't die unexpectedly... he screwed you and his children over.
Quoting Mamaof3and1tobe:
Life insurance doesn't cover suicide
Quoting Punkie74:He didn't have life insurance? My husband and I are both well insured in the event of such tragedy. I am sorry for your loss but if he didn't ensure that his family was cared for in case of untimely death, yes that is irresponsibility on your and his part.
Quoting Mamaof3and1tobe:
Really? So should I have given up my kids because their father died unexpectedly and we had to live with my father until I was able to get back on my feet? Hmm... Makes sense.
Quoting Punkie74:
We don't get it and I think if you can't afford to feed your children you shouldn't have them!!
Just pack their lunches. I see free and reduced lunches as a means for the kids who truly need it, to get fed. If you can afford to pack them a lunch and let them eat at school once a week, you don't need the reduction. Leave it for the kids who truly need it.
Quoting kayjayjess:The law requires our children to go to school. Therefore they should provide lunch. JMO
