I was just wondering if your doctor or state have requirements that say you have to a certain age or have so many kids before you can have a tubal or a permanent birth control.
Here's (SE Iowa) its 35 or 3 kids. Unless its a medically needed thing.

When I had my son I was 21. They asked if I wanted my tubes tied and I said sure. Then they asked my age and how many kids. After telling them I was 21 and my son was my first they said I had to be either 25 or have 3 kids if I was under 25 in order to have it done. I live in Virginia.

I had made the decision to have my tubes tied before my dd was born 5 years before ds, so I was 100% sure. I was annoyed every time they asked and let it be known!

Dang!! I would get annoyed with that. Why can't it be our decision without anybody saying no.?

I also should mention when I went in for my first OB appointment, they asked about birth control after my pregnancy, I told them I wanted my tubes tied. EVERY single appointment after I was asked if I still wanted my tubes tied. I could not have the procedure done after ds was born because I was anemic so I had to wait 6 weeks. The day of the procedure I was asked AGAIN if I was sure u wanted it. I finally just asked why they kept asking and my doctor said if I wasn't 100% sure he wouldn't do it. He said it was harder to get pregnant after a reversal.

In PA it is 25 or 3 kids. I had my tubes tied after ds was born but I was 33. The only reason I know this, my neighbor was waiting to turn 25 to gets hers done but she got pregnant with her 3 rd child.

There is no state laws regarding volunteer sterilization for adults. However, many doctors and insurance companies have their own policies. Many around here (PA) state 25 and 2-3 kids. I managed to get Essure done at 21 with 2 kids but it took going to a lot of doctors.

It is to protect them from lawsuits. Ppl have it done without realizing It's hard to reverse or they make a rash decision about it. Then try and blame or sue the doc who did it.

I just don't understand how or why they should be able to us "nope you aren't old enough. Or you don't have enough kids"
