In another thread about giving up your seat to a pregnant person.

While I understand it is a kind thing to do.

a number of women said they should have "respect" for a pregnant woman and give up their seats.

What does that mean?

Why should I respect a perfect stranger who had sex and is pregnant?

For those who can't grasp the concept of THIS discussion.

This is not a debate about giving up a seat

this is me asking what it is about a pregnant person that I should have automatic "RESPECT" for.

I agree with you. I always give up my seat tho. I am a firm believer that respect isn't given but earned anyway.

I agree, she's not a disabled veteran or something, she's knocked up.

I agree but I never wanted special treatment, even in my own home. I was just pregnant not injured.

courtesy and respect are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Being kind and empathetic towards a noticably pregnant woman is awesome, but you don't get my RESPECT until you earn it... Sorry but thats just me.

Agree. Pregnancy isn't a disability, women need to stop acting like it is.

Maybe not respect, but have some common courtesy.  How would you feel at 8 months pregnant if you had to stand on a bus for the duration of your trip?

Right I can see using the term respect for an older person who has gone through their life and has earned a modicum of respect for that, or a vet etc.

but what is there to respect about a pregnant person.

honestly Im open to explanations, maybe I will understand.
