Living off the grid. Would you ?

Posted by   + Show Post

If you had the resources to live entirely off the grid, as in a water supply like well water, solar generated electricity, wood furnace or geothermal heat,  would you? It's a lot of money up front but you make that up in a few years with lack of utilitiy bills. You have the freedom of being self reliant.

What about subsistence living? Would you be willing to grow, fish or hunt all of your own food and not rely on the supermarket? Would you want to?

Yes, we're working on it. Already heat with wood, have well water, raise our own meat and have a large garden. We're looking into alternative energy, either solar or a windmill, but it's an extremely expensive up front and it's going to take us a while to save up for it.

Yes. We plan on doing some of these things when we get our house built. We will have well water (water lines are not offered where we are moving), we are looking into alternate heat and energy options. Energy might be a slight problem due to location of our property (lots of tree cover and not much wind) but we are gonna try.
