School Fundraisers

Do you hit up everyone for school fundraisers?  How serious do you all take it?  DS just started kindergarten and he got notice that the school is doing the annual walk a thon.  The letter said it goes to support art and music programs and the goal is to have every child raise $50.  I threw in $6 and called dh who said he would throw in some cash too.

Do you hit up anyone outside the family for this type of thing?  And I know I may sound cheap here, but, there is no way I CAN throw in a $50, so they have to be happy with my $6 lol (it was the cash in my purse). Do they really expect each child to raise $50 each??  What about families with a bunch of kids in the same elementary?

We don't participate in school fund raisers.

We don't hit too many people up.  If it's public school there isn't much they can do if you don't sell it.  Now when I was in high school I went to a private school and if you didn't raise the money for the fundraiser the parents were billed for them.  I did do more for those."

I only hit up the grandparents and my one friend who's dd goes to the same school. I donated to hers, she donated for mine. At least this was just donations ( the kids are going to be running laps Thursday for it) and not the overly priced wrapping paper.

My kindy kid just came home with the fall school fundraiser packet today too! Its one of those fatty coupon books. SO is going to take the book and packet to his work for a couple days, see if any coworkers are interested. Other than that we'll buy one, but we have no family members where we live to use the books, so the family is spared lol

Yes, we ask people at work, at school (my husband and I take courses at different colleges, so its a lot of people), friends, and neighbors if they would like to contribute to the cause, many do. We don't harass or guilt them or anything, just tell them what it is and say if they want to contribute, the school would really appreciate it. We live in a tight community, people like to support the schools, even though most can only give a couple dollars, it adds up.I have four kids in the school district (my son and my three siblings who live with us) and they all usually meet their fundraising goals.

Here fundraisers are every month, think about hitting family, friends, neighbors and co workers up for 50$ every 30 days..No one would want a thing to do with you!

We do not participate at all. I donate enough time in volunteer work and attend every PTO and Parent Advisory meeting that I don't feel I need to sell crap to people I know. It's just more work then I want to take on.

We've done it before, though not one family member helped (just me) and some of my co-workers at the time. Last year I didn't bother. This year we are homeschooling, so it's not even an option.

We pester whoever we can but we won't use high pressure sale tactics. Whatever we get is good enough and better than nothing.

I know it is but I guess they figure it the parents have a chance to have it worked    off.  but then it was only two fund raisers a year.
