whens the best time to carve pumpkins?

As strange as it is, my family didn't do pumpkin carving growing up, when in October is the Best time to carve your pumpkins?

My husband likes to carve the pumpkins the day of. We didn't carve often when I was growing up

We usually go to the pumpkin farm around mid-october then carve our pumpkins when we get home. They don't always last until halloween though.

Craft stores carry fake pumpkins you can carve. We use those. We get to carve them, they do not rot, and we get to save them every year and use them as decorations every year.

If you want it to last, do it a few days before.

I always buy  maybe 5 or 6 pumpkins, let my son paint a few of them and then we save 2 or 3 of them for carving right before halloween.
